ADA plates and tiles are generic terms for tactile surfaces designed to physically cue visually disabled pedestrians that they are approaching an intersection. ADA-compliant plates must be easily seen, felt underfoot, and detected with guidance canes. VLCS stocks composite and cast iron ADA plates. Both are compliant with ADA requirements and meet the MDOT R-28 specification.
Composite ADA Plates
We stock composite ADA-compliant plates from AccessTile and Armor-Tile.

Access Tile Options
- Replaceable Cast in Place Tiles: lightweight and durable tiles that are easily installed into wet set concrete.
- Surface Applied Tiles: retrofit tiles designed to be installed on top of any existing cured concrete surface.
- Wayfinding Tiles: these directional tiles use bar-shaped tactile surfaces to create a detectable path to and from transit stops or buildings. They are available in Cast in Place or Surface Applied tiles.
- Radius Curve Tiles: these tactile warning tiles are designed for use on curved curbs, pedestrian crossings, and transit platforms. They are available in Cast in Place or Surface Applied tiles.

Armor-Tile Options
- Cast in Place: manufactured out of diamond-hard vitrified polymer composite with an embedment flange anchoring system.
- Surface Applied: lightweight tiles with beveled edges for a smooth transition between walking surfaces. Includes tile, adhesive, fasteners, and sealant.
- Herculite Series: innovative design for quick change replaceability and enhanced anti-slip surface.
- Modular Paver: high strength modular paver can be dry laid on compacted fill or set in a grout bed or drypac.
- Detectable Guidance: a tactile pathway for pedestrian crossings with integral embedment flanges for anchoring in new construction applications.
- Detectable Directional: used for university campuses, parks, sidewalks, and transit facilities and is a cost-effective solution for new construction.
Cast Iron ADA Plates
Cast Iron ADA plates from NF are built to last and are virtually maintenance-free. They are available in a variety of sizes and use a quick-connect connection style to mount together. We stock these in both a natural and black powder coated finish. Other colors are available via special order.
Cast Iron ADA plates from Tuf-Tile are the only flat-back on the market. Tuf-Tile plates do not need to be counted together when placed and go into the concrete similar to composite plates due to their design. We stock a variety of sizes in natural and black powder coated finish. Other colors and radius pieces are available via special order.
